SiteImprove
I helped optimize Hennepin County websites for accessibility and WCAG 2.1 & 2.2 issues through the use of SiteImprove as a crawl tool. I fixed and researched issues like aria-labels not matching texts, empty headers and titles, visual ques, color contrasts, etc..
Technology
SiteImprove, Sitecore, HTML5, CSS3
Role
Accessibility and QA web designer
Stakeholders
UX designers, web developer, Accessibility lead, and Web Communications team supervisor
Challenge
When SiteImprove would flag our sites for Accessibility issues, my role was to investigate why certain webpages were being flagged. Through the use of my HTML and CSS skills, I was able to locate errors in front-end code. These are a few screenshots of object tags and title tags that remained empty, but where still being uploaded to our external sites. These are issues in accessibility because it can cause issues to screen readers, SEO and more.
Results
Through SiteImprove and working with our developer, we were able to resolve quite a few level A and AA issues. We prioritized level A issues first as shown in the powerpoint slide image to the bottom left and were able to resolve 4289 issues that were affecting 3710 pages after Q1. We were also able to bring up our Hennepin county site up to speed with other government sites in terms of accessibility conformance.
